Very long submarine cables for extra-high voltage and power
These cables can transmit up to 1000 MW per cable in a 600 kV DC system, thus 2000 MW at bipolar operation. Mass-impregnated cables have been used since year 1895! ABB has delivered more than 1700 km of HVDC MI cables all over the world. The 580 km long 700 MW, 450 kV cable link between Norway and the Netherlands represents a world record of both power and length for this cable type.
